We must be surrounded by a bunch of individuals who give actionable feedback that can help us be the best versions of ourselves at all times!
But why is that so? Why is it so important? And how do you give and receive feedback that matters? Let’s find out!
Before that, you need to understand…
Actionable feedback is the specific, nuanced commentary given to an individual, group, or brand to help them improve. Here, the feedback is not based on generalization but on detailed aspects of a journey.
It will be rich in insights and outline solutions to improve. A well-rounded feedback will answer these questions:
Also, it focuses on outcomes, not personal traits or characteristics. This makes it objective and easier for the receiver to digest the feedback!
Here’s an example:
And you must understand that the most effective feedback comes to those who seek it!
Most of us believe that actionable and constructive feedback are the same. Though they have similar characteristics, there are minute differences. Constructive feedback focuses on a specific action or event and is delivered positively. It is given so that an individual can feel motivated and do better.
The other does the same but goes beyond! It provides a detailed analysis and solution so the recipient can take immediate action and strive for success. You can say it is concrete and is built on practicality. If you think about it, constructive feedback can be made actionable by adding value to it!
It is literally SMART! Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Timely.
For instance, say you are a website designer for a SaaS company. You received feedback that the text on the feedback widget on your blog home page is camouflaged by the background color. The users are having a tough time spotting the button, and the font size needs to be increased.
As a designer, this feedback is gold! You can take immediate action and do what is necessary.
But what’s the big deal about it?
Feedback is crucial whether you are a company owner or an employee. It helps you understand what is wrong, what is to be done, or even the steps needed for further development.
There are many ways to collect feedback. You can consider a peer-to-peer discussion, mentoring sessions, or a 360-degree feedback mechanism. Online surveys and feedback forms are one of the most convenient ways.
You can create conversational surveys and forms with SurveySparrow. Whether it is product, customer, employee, or even manager feedback, templates are waiting for your every need. You can also create ones from scratch with the drag-and-drop builder.

Use This TemplateWhy don’t we look at a few examples you can reuse if needed? I thought organizing them into 4 four important categories would be better. Feedback comes in various shapes and sizes.
Here are a few common types of feedback for…
Knowledge of performance feedback is crucial in shaping your career. This is why you must use simple language and, most importantly, kind words when you address anyone.
Example 1:
“Hi Timothé! It’s great to see you working hard on the new product design. The customer reviews for the previous one are amazing. If you are finding it hard to keep up with other requirements, you can perhaps try using our Task Manager tool. This will help you organize your daily tasks and let us know your bandwidth.”
Example 2:
“I just reviewed your blog, and the quality is exceptional! I like how you used relatable examples to talk about Multistage Sampling. However, it would be great if you could add a few images and infographics to validate your points. This will also improve the readability.”
It is extremely important to keep performance improvement feedback flowing both ways. You must be in a situation where you can openly communicate with your co-workers and those working in higher strata than you.
Example 1:
“The way you handled the previous quarter was inspirational. The team was able to tackle the issues, especially with our recent customer, without falling prey to pressure. I would appreciate it if you could hold a casual meeting once a month to discuss our bandwidth so that we can set and meet our targets without any delay.”
Example 2:
“Our team feels motivated when the slightest of hard work is recognized by you. The sudden churn of two major customers was a big hit for us. The way you positively handled the issue is commendable. We expect you to support us in the same way going on.”
Example 1: Say you are in charge of your class, and there is a math test. You decide to have a healthy chat with your classmates once a week. Now, one student, Timothé, is exceptional in Math but does not follow any steps. Here’s how you can go about it…
“You have arrived at the correct answer, but it would be even better if you jotted down the steps that let you drive this conclusion. I see this question as tricky for all the students. If you could communicate your method, we can understand the way you think.”
Example 2: Now, say there was a debate contest on the Pros and Cons of using AI in Marketing. You are the moderator…
“I liked how you used a story to prove the importance of AI in conversational marketing. You also used relatable dialogue. But there were not enough points to support your claim. You can use real-life examples of successful businesses that have used artificial intelligence to its full potential.”
Teachers must be kept in the loop about how their classes are reaching the students. Also, each student has a different cognitive capacity. Some need attention, and some can perhaps help the rest out. It would be best if a feedback form were rolled out to the students once a month.
This will help the teachers get a clear picture of what is to be done. It will also give the students a chance to open up about their requirements.
Example 1:
“I like how you use real-life examples while explaining a difficult topic. You also engage the class by asking our opinions. Everything was clear, but I had a hard time completing the assignment on Relativity, as the topic was not previously discussed.”
Example 2:
“I would love it if we get to discuss topics outside the syllabus at least once a week. This will help us build focus and bond! Also, can we start weekly pop quiz?”
Now that you know the basics, why don’t we look at the different ways to give feedback?
As I mentioned before, it is your responsibility to seek feedback on your work.
Here are a few things you can do to get active feedback…
First, decide which aspect you want reviewed. This could be about your recent project, a new idea you implemented, or the targets that were given.
Let’s end this blog with a few best practices!
I can’t agree more with this!
“We all need people who will give us feedback. That’s how we improve.”
– Bill Gates
Always be open to receiving and giving feedback. And be gracious enough to take action on the constructive comments you receive. Also, according to a study by Harvard Business School, women have to ask for actionable feedback. Whether you are an employer or employee, you should not let gender bias persist.
You can always take the first step and roll out feedback surveys. Your team can also incorporate surveys as a feedback mechanism to provide detailed comments to peers and employers. Be proactive if you want to come out with flying colors!
